This is the new Mausoleum for 2010 that will house our FCG (Flying Crank Ghost) that we rebuilt
a couple of years ago.

I started framing the structure for the new mausoleum. I designed it so that it breaks down to 5 pieces for
storage.
Each side section is 4' wide x 6' tall. The front and back attach inside
the side walls and are secured with 2 bolts on each side. I used 3" screws for
all of the framing. This is important because nails won't hold together a frame
very well if the frame is going to be moved around a lot.
|
I used 1/4" plywood for the sides.
|
This is just a temporary structure for the roof piece. I ran out of wood but
wanted to see the general shape so I threw some scraps together. Next week I
will build the final roof structure.

Over the last couple of days I reframed the roof, applied 1/4" plywood to the roof, caulked the seams, and built the columns.

Finally got the Mausoleum just about finished!
I decided to wrap the roof with 4 mil black plastic that I just happened to have on hand to make the roof 100% water proof. This is glued
down with construction adhesive. This also helps mask all the imperfections in my gable roof.
|
I glued some 2" styrofoam on the front of the gable roof as a facade. I glued this printed sheet of paper on the front with light spray adhesive.
|
I cut around the edges of the lettering with an Xacto knife.
|
Using a simple cutting bit on my Dremel, I just went back and forth in the "negative" areas. Then I pull away chunks of styrofoam with my fingers or my xacto knife.
|
I think it looks pretty good with all of the negative area removed.
|
The rest of the afternoon was spent painting everything. I think it turned out great!

Today, with the help of my awesome brother-in-law Chris, I got the mausoleum moved out into position on the yard. Chris also worked on building a shelf for the florescent blacklight and hung the flying-crank-ghost rig inside the mausoleum.
